music education standard and gives music students a platform to perform in public.

The Malakoff Malaysian Youth 
Music Festival 2011

Jointly organized by MYOF and Kota Kinabalu Music Society, this year’s festival saw over 500 entries to the festival competitions. The day was filled with musical performances from as young as 4 years old to adults. MYOF’s Patron YABhg Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah Hj. Mohd graced the festival together with Chairman, Encik Mirzan Mahathir. Performance on piano, violin, vocal, saxophone, flute, guitar, instrumental ensemble and choir group were heard throughout the day. There was also a new category of technical scales competitions where winners took home cash prize as a reward for their hard work.

The highlights of the day were a piano lecture recital featuring one of the festival adjudicator & world-class pianist from Canada Roger Lord, 

a cello and piano recital by Kett Chuan Lee & Shuenda Wong (MYOF's scholarship recipient) 

and the festival finale concert performed by 6 selected winners competing for the top three Patron Awards, as well as guests performers.

The top 3 Patron Awards were given to: 12 years old violinist Antony Goon Kin Seng from Petaling Jaya, 

Grand Prize, followed by 13 years old pianist Joshua Ng Jin Ho from Ipoh who was awarded the 2nd Prize Patron Award,

and the 3rd prize was awarded to 11 years old pianist Gabriella Prisca Handoko from Indonesia.

The group performers invited to play at the finale concert were also winners in their respective categories competition throughout the day. They were: Foon Yew Kulai String Ensemble from Kulai, Johor;

The Schaumann's Junior Ensemble from Brunei;

Piano Duet by 13 and 11 years old Rui Fernando & Gabriella Prisca Handoko from Indonesia;

Encore Sunshine Kids (Children's Ensemble) from Melaka

and MIA Ladies Chorus from Kuala Lumpur.

Our deepest appreciation goes to all the volunteers, the Kota Kinabalu Music Society, all the adjudicators for taking their time to be part of this memorable day. Special thanks to all the sponsors for their contributions and support, Mr. Roger Lord, Kett Chuan Lee and Shuenda Wong for their wonderful performances and last but not least, all the participants, parents, music teachers and music schools for participating in the festival.
